My name is Cherita, and I'm the founder, creator, and voice behind Brown Girl on a Budget. What started as a personal journey to create a better life has grown into a platform dedicated to helping others pursue their dreams without spending a fortune.
For years, I worked traditional jobs, paid bills, and did everything I was supposed to do. Like many people, I dreamed of traveling, living abroad, and experiencing more of the world, but I assumed those opportunities were only available to people with large savings accounts or high-paying careers. Then life reminded me how precious time really is.
After facing health challenges, financial setbacks, and personal obstacles, I began searching for a different path—one that prioritized freedom, peace, affordability, and personal fulfillment. That search eventually led me to Thailand.
At the age of 54, I made the life-changing decision to move overseas. It wasn't a perfect journey. There were countless hours spent researching visas, housing, healthcare, banking, transportation, and budgeting. I made mistakes, learned valuable lessons, and discovered that moving abroad was far more achievable than most people realize.
As friends, family members, and strangers began asking questions about my experience, I realized there was a need for honest, practical information from someone who had actually gone through the process. That's when Brown Girl on a Budget was born.
Today, my mission is simple: help everyday people create a life they love without breaking the bank. Through relocation guides, budget resources, consultations, and real-life experiences, I share the information I wish I had when I started my own journey.
Whether you're considering a move to Thailand, planning long-term travel, looking for ways to stretch your budget, or simply seeking inspiration to try something new, I hope my story shows you that it's never too late to create a different life.
